Funny Games Movie Review

Funny Games DVDI’ve posted a movie review for the 2008 remake Funny Games, starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Michael Pitt. The movie is directed by Michael Haneke, who also directed the original Austrian version ten years earlier. Anyone know why he decided to remake his own movie? I don’t know. Even worse, the movie is a shot-by-shot remake, meaning if you’ve seen one you’ve seen the other, save some subtitles (assuming the original is indeed subtitled).

I haven’t seen the original Funny Games, so thankfully I was able to enjoy this one a lot. It is depraved, disturbing and shocking – read my Funny Games movie review here.

Sorry, but I watch a lot of movies, no matter what the content, but this really is the sickest and most disturbing movie I have ever seen, I guess that’s what the producer was hoping for. I didn’t even finish it, I ejected the disk after they killed their son, just a sad, messed up movie all around. I had hoped better with actors like Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, but sadly disappointed. Puts a bad taste in my mouth for future movies with these actors also.

  • Hey Jo, yeah, the movie’s definitely not for everyone.

Jo you type of people annoy me you overeact to everything. You want a good realistic movie. You watched half of it. The movie is not to be a thriller it is to make a statement of “this is how it really goes”. This movie was deep and shocking with no explination. Which is how killing in that manner goes. Charles Manson has no idea why he did it, but he did. Keep in mind the director tried to manipulate the audience. He wanted you to turn it off. He wanted to see how far people could go by watching a simple film. He tested your limits which isnt done much these days. Naoimi Watts was fantastic in this film. It’s a good film. Read the book The Room by Hubert Selby Jr. if you want REALLY messed up stuff that the author couldnt read fo rover a decade really read it THEN watch the movie a guarentee you get through it next time.
