Jason Bourne may not be returning to theaters anytime soon, but America’s other favorite spy is: Paramount Pictures has confirmed that Tom Cruise will once again star as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 4, and that production is being fast-tracked for a 2011 Memorial Day Weekend release date – which would likely mean it will debut on May 27, 2011.
J.J. Abrams, who directed Mission: Impossible III (one of the best and most overlooked action movies of the decade) and, more recently, Star Trek, will produce the movie alongside Cruise; the two are currently seeking a director for the film.
Contrary to prior rumors, Mission: Impossible 4 will feature Ethan Hunt in the leading role; earlier reports had suggested that Hunt would have a lesser role to transition to a newer, presumably younger cast.
