The first trailer for Apollo 18 is now online, depicting NASA’s secret mission to the moon that led to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. And not friendly extraterrestrials, either. The movie is shot documentary style and is supposed to be “long lost footage” (a la Cloverfield and Quarantine), which to me means that all of the characters will die by the end of the movie.
The presumably low-budget thriller has some promise, even if the concept is very similar to the beginning of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Unfortunately, the studio decided to show the entire movie in the trailer, effectively killing any allure the film may carry.
I mean, seriously. Let’s show the astronauts landing on the moon. Encountering something in the shadows. A spider-like creature scurrying across an astronaut’s face. The astronauts becoming infected with some kind of virus. Oxygen running low. All kinds of other stuff.
Why show all that? Tease the story. Tease the story! Don’t show the whole f**king story.
What do you think?
