The 10 Worst Johnny Depp Movies

No. 3. Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Further proof that the Satanic alliance between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp must end, Alice in Wonderland – one of the worst movies of 2010 – was one of the top earning films of the year. Featuring bad special effects to an aimless script and yet another extremely odd performance by Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland has almost nothing going for it.

Burton, despite his love for all things weird, wasn’t a good choice to direct the movie. Strangely, unlike in Sweeney Todd, the only good thing about the collaboration was Helena Bonham Carter. Go figure.

No. 2. Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)

Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado is one of my favorite action movies of all time. I simply love it, even if it is stupid. So I was peeing in my pants when Rodriguez finally made another sequel to El Mariachi, which brought back Antonio Banderas and introduced Johnny Depp as a scheming, corrupt CIA agent.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Where Desperado was stylish, slick and exciting, Once Upon a Time is a jumbled mess, a steaming pile of dog poo. Depp is mildly amusing, but even he can’t come close to saving this cluster.

No. 1. The Astronaut’s Wife (1999)

No one can say Johnny Depp doesn’t take on interesting projects. Unfortunately, some of those projects fail spectacularly. In The Astronaut’s Wife, Johnny Depp plays an astronaut possessed by an alien, who returns home to wreak havoc on his beautiful wife who looks a lot like Charlize Theron.

What could have been a superbly acted, suspenseful thriller instead turns out to be a drab and boring “sci-fi” movie. The movie is so mind numbingly forgettable it’s hard to rank it as Johnny Depp’s worst, but if sounds like a horse and looks like a horse…

I never saw Imaginarium…, but I liked the Astronaut’s Wife and Ninth Gate. I agree with the rest though – sorry snails.

I tried watching Once Upon a Time in Mexico, but couldn’t get passed the fact the editor seemingly hadn’t taken his Ritalin meds in about a month.

Sweeney Todd and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I disagree.

  • @LadyDi – thanks for the comment!
@casting couch – yeah, Once Upon a Time in Mexico is terrible.
@s – I figured those two would be the most controversial on the list.

Oh, you think his wife in The Astronaut’s wife looks a lot like Charlize Theron? That’s probably because it is Charlize Theron you fucking twit.

    Sarcasm, troll.

Wow, I really disagree with this list! You have put some amazing peformances in here in my opinion. For example; The Pirates of the Caribbean? Sweeney Todd? CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY?!? and The Tourist made sense to me…
However, ‘ The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ was a terrible movie but you can hardly call it Depps? and I didnt even try to watch ‘The Astronaut’s Wife’ the trailer looked painful.
My favorite Johnny Depp Movies are…
From Hell, Pirates of the Caribbean, The tourist and Public Enemies. I havent seen all of them yet, though most.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies are great! His performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was great and Sweeney Todd was awesome too. Alice and Wonderland was also pretty good as well.

I can understand why The Tourist was there though.

  • The first Pirates was good. The others were a mess.

A lot of people liked Sweeney Todd… I’m not a fan of the music at all.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory… he did a good job impersonating a pedophilia-driven Michael Jackson. 😉
