The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s War Horse is now online. The movie is almost assured multiple Oscar nominations due to the pedigree alone, let alone the “feel good” nature of the story. There’s understandable excitement for the picture, as there should be due to the director alone.
So why am I so disinterested in this property?
War Horse is about a horse that travels through Europe, facing war and other adventure. The movie isn’t just about the horse but also the lives he touches.
This project hasn’t excited me from the start and the trailer, which you can watch below, does little to improve my sentiments. Aside from a few glimpses of warfare, there’s a lot of footage of the horse running through different scenery – and since I’m not a little girl, horses running don’t do a lot for me.
It just looks… boring.
Now, I’m sure I’m wrong. Steven Spielberg rarely misfires, and even when he does his films are still among the best of the given year. War Horse is set against World War I, and Spielberg has treated audiences to some of the best war movies ever made. War Horse will be good – but this one movie I just can’t get excited about.
