One of the best movies of 2012 debuts on DVD and Blu-ray this week, and that movie is Cabin in the Woods. What looks like a stereotypical horror movie about a group of young stupid things who go to – you guessed it – a cabin in the woods only to get dismembered one by one is anything but, but to say anything more than that would ruin what makes it so good in the first place.
Just go and rent this movie right now. Hell, go and buy it, because it’s that good.
Cabin in the Woods is co-written by Joss Whedon, who you may or may not know as the writer/director of The Avengers (a small action movie that didn’t do very well in theaters).
The movie isn’t quite as fun the second time around because half of the thrill is not knowing what is going to happen next, but it’s still a good ol’ time. The third act is still ingenius. The Blu-ray also comes packaged with an audio commentary, a making-of featurette and a variety of other behind-the-scenes goodies.
