The 10 Best Matt Damon Movies

No. 3. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Saving Private Ryan is the best movie on this list, but I’m going to dock it a few points because Matt Damon really doesn’t show up until the third act. While he delivers a great performance in a pivotal role (he is the title character, after all), I wouldn’t call it my “favorite Matt Damon movie.”

No. 2. Good Will Hunting (1997)

One of two Matt Damon movies that I make a ritual of watching once a year, Good Will Hunting is a fantastically engaging, powerful and at times funny drama that hits all the right chords – and officially introduces us to the talents of Damon and Ben Affleck.

No. 1. The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

I need to buy a new copy of this movie, because I’ve worn my original version to its nub. By far my favorite Bourne movie – and also the best Matt Damon movie – Paul Greengrass’s action flick is a masterpiece. But, no Carlos?

  • Seriously Saving Private Ryan? You mentioned it but still, he plays like 5 minutes in the movie? What about The Talented Mr. Ripley? He was brilliant. And Invictus?

Bravo! Bourne reigns supreme! But let’s not remember his comedic side in Brothers Grimm alongside Heath Ledger. A happy viewer they made some lucky guy!

He’s glorious in dogma. And also gave an awesome performance in the informant. But seriously.. dogma is number one.

He still plays a pretty pivotal role in Saving Private Ryan, but your point is valid. I need to re-watch Talented Mr. Riply – very good. Invictus… nothing special.
