The 33 Movies to See in 2017
Spider-Man starts afresh (again), this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The good news? The odds are that the movie will better than the Andrew Garfield films. The bad news? It’ll likely be as safe and predictable as other Marvel movies.
Disney has discovered a reliable formula: remake its most popular cartoons with live actors. Whether the Emma Watson-starrer will be just an unnecessary retread of a perfectly fine animated movie remains to be seen.
23. The Dark Tower
Stephen King’s strange epic (I’ve only read the first two so far) has the potential to be great cinema (Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey star), but this adaptation could also be a disaster.
22. The Founder
Michael Keaton delivers a great performance in this entertaining drama about how McDonald’s became the massive corporation it is today. The 2016 film opens wide in 2017.
21. Baby Driver
The plot, about a getaway driver who is drawn into a heist that spirals out control, sounds generic, but director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) is not known for doing anything close to generic.
