abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter

Abraham Lincoln is often regarded as the greatest president to have served the United States of America. He helped abolish slavery. He sacrificed the lives of many Americans to reunite the north and south. He singlehandedly saved the country from a legion of vampires.

Blu-ray Review: Prometheus, Round Two

October 13th, 2012
prometheus-michael-fassbender

“Questions will be answered” is the tagline for the Blu-ray release of Prometheus, featuring never-before-seen extras including an alternate beginning and ending. That’s a lofty promise, considering one of the biggest complaints about Ridley Scott’s anticipated return to the sci-fi genre – and the Alien franchise – was that the movie raised many more questions than it answered.

Review: Not as ‘Taken 2′ as the First One

October 4th, 2012
taken-2-liam-neeson

You’ve been kidnapped, injected with drugs and sold into sex slavery. In Paris. Naturally, you would have no concern traveling to Istanbul. And your dad, who was so paranoid about you traveling out of the country and, when you did get kidnapped, went on a murderous rampage, would have no problem with you tagging along on his trip. Enter Taken 2, where plausibility goes to die.

New Lone Ranger Trailer, Poster and Photos, Oh My!

October 4th, 2012
lone-ranger-poster

Last time you saw Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp team up, the result was a quiet franchise known as Pirates of the Caribbean. Actually, it was the stellar animated movie Rango. Their latest unholy union is The Lone Ranger, a super-expensive and problem-laden western adventure flick that may or may not involve werewolves and other supernatural creatures.

October 3rd, 2012
raid-redemption

One of the most brutal action movies in recent memory, The Raid: Redemption is a non-stop, slick and violent thriller that delivers on all fronts. Superbly directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid is a must-see for action fans.

October 2nd, 2012
iron-sky-nazis

You knew they would be back. You stay up late thinking about it. It’s a horror we all fear. Nazis. Plotting their return, their revenge. They’ve had seven decades to perfect their plan, and in the B-grade action movie Iron Sky, we see what those book-burning bastards have put into motion.

Review: ‘Looper’ is Fun, Smart and Unpredictable

September 30th, 2012
looper-bruce-willis

Bruce Willis squares off against a Bruce Willis-esque Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Looper, a time bending action-thriller that not only exceeds its lofty expectations, but serves up one of the best sci-fi stories of the last decade.

Snow White Blu-ray Review: Style, No Substance

September 11th, 2012
snow-white-charlize-theron

Some would describe Snow White and the Huntsman as a fun movie. Others would describe it as a glossy mess. Regardless, there’s no argument that director Rupert Sanders is as good at creating stunning visuals as he is at directing his way into Kristen Stewart’s pants. Unfortunately, the bonus features included on the new Blu-ray release – available in stores now – are immediately forgettable.

Review: Premium Rush is Fast and Stupid

September 6th, 2012
premium-rush

While lawyers, policemen and doctors get television show after television show, bike messengers get nada. Hell, truck drivers in Alaska get a television show. Packrats do, too. How many shows are there about bike messengers? A big fat zero. Not anymore! Bike messengers finally get their day in the spotlight, and not on television – in a big-screen movie starring big-screen actors, depicting just how awesome their low-paid jobs are. Especially when corrupt cops and Chinese smugglers are involved.

Review + Giveaway: The Lord of the Rings Blu-rays

September 5th, 2012
lord-of-the-rings

The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest trilogies of all time, not only because of its sweeping story arcs and extraordinary production values but because it was filmed as one, long movie that happened to be split into three parts. There is also little argument that the extended versions of the three movies, with over two hours of additional footage, are superior to the theatrical releases. In fact, it’s hard to think of not watching the extended versions.

Review: Jason Statham Plays it ‘Safe’

September 4th, 2012
safe-movie-2012

Jason Statham is back in the generically titled Safe, a generic action movie that is a weak entry even by his standards. Statham, who even when acting in subpar material exudes an incredible degree of energy and charisma, seems to realize early on that he signed onto a stinker; he’s as forgettable as the movie.
