And people said Iron Man 2 was stupid. Robert Downey Jr. is back in the first post-Avengers Marvel film, and boy is it a cluttered mess. Featuring a bland villain, a nonsensical plot and major tonal imbalance, Iron Man 3 has plenty of laughs but very few thrills. But hey, at least Robert Downey Jr. is in it.

Thor is back, and so is Natalie Portman looking all Natalie Portman-ish! Disney and Marvel have released the first action-packed teaser trailer for Thor: The Dark World, which looks like the first one only with an even badder bad guy. The teaser isn’t all that great in the scheme of things, but it has some juicy nuggets.

Sylvestor Stallone is gone, but Judge Dredd is back in Dredd, a movie no one asked for but got anyway. In this case, however, Dredd is a fun surprise, a movie that won’t win any awards but revels in its simplicity and benefits from slick direction and a violent script.

I’m a sucker for depressing movie trailers, especially when you know the good guys are eventually going to prevail in the end. In the upcoming Iron Man 3, Tony Stark looks like he’s in for a sh*t show. A mysterious terrorist named The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) wages war on Stark and his alter ego Iron Man by obliterating his mansion and apparently stealing his suits, and that’s just the beginning.

Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, which debuts in theaters summer 2013. Directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan, Man of Steel looks to re-energize the Superman franchise with a grittier and hopefully more action-packed approach to the man with the red tights. Ten years and two months after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man dominated theaters and advanced the comic book movie genre to a whole new level, the web slinger is back, restarting from scratch with a new origin story that is strangely reminiscent of the previous origin story. Cursed by its own lack of originality, The Amazing Spider-Man struggles mightily to shed the not-so-distant memory of its predecessors, but deep down there is a well done movie that sets the stage for some highly charged sequels.

The Dark Knight Rises doesn’t open until July 20, but Fandango is already selling tickets for the highly anticipated event. Sure, you could wait, but do you remember a couple of summers ago when the last Batman movie hit theaters. It was sold out for weeks, especially on the weekends.

Way back in 2007, I watched a movie called Ghost Rider. And way back in 2007, I wrote a movie review that said it is “one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.” And way back in 2007, I lamented, “Are we going to suffer a sequel?” After earning $237 million worldwide, Marvel said “yes”, which means that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance exists. In the movie, people pay for their sins, and the audience pays as well. We’re the reason a sequel exists. We deserve to watch this wretched movie a thousand times over.
