If you watch a bad movie once, it isn’t your fault. You didn’t know that it was going to be a bad movie. If you watch a bad movie twice, and you voluntarily drove to the theater, parked and sat in an auditorium for 90 minutes to do so, then there is no one to blame but yourself. Silent House is a remake of last year’s Spanish-language film of the same name, and while it improves upon some of the original’s flaws, it is still a stupid, dull and absurdly disappointing horror movie.

Harry Potter returns to the land of the Muggles and finds that things are a lot scarier than He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named in The Woman in Black, Daniel Radcliffe’s first movie since the franchise that made him a household name came to a close. The Woman in Black is creepy from start to finish and should satisfy most horror fans, but it fails to capitalize on its eerie atmosphere with a few too many cliché scares and a terribly disappointing ending.

Harry Potter… er, we mean Daniel Radcliffe… has a new movie coming to theaters on February 3, and boy does it look scary!
The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.

A bite, a little sucking and a withered corpse. With the unnecessary remake Fright Night, director Craig Gillespie found something to chew, sucked away the perfect blend of campiness and horror that made the original so good and produced a forgettable corpse of a movie.

When aliens attack, they better not land in inner city South London. That’s the message in Attack the Block, the entertaining but inconsequential action-comedy about a bunch of pitch-black aliens with glowing razor-sharp teeth who meet their match in a group of ragtag hoodlums.

Three years in, the Saw franchise is finally dead, its slayer – the simpler, cheaper and much scarier Paranormal Activity series – stronger than ever. Paranormal Activity 3 is another prequel that sets the story in the 1980′s, providing video evidence of the activity that occurred when the sisters portrayed in the first two movies were just children. The result is another legitimately freaky entry, one that introduces a few new tricks to keep audiences on their toes.

Ignoring the third movie, the Underworld franchise has delivered some cheap thrills over the years and lots of tight black leather-clad Kate Beckinsale, which is more than can be said for a lot of movies. With Beckinsale’s career not exactly taking off, it’s no surprise that the beautiful actress is returning to another entry in the franchise.
Screen Gems just released a new poster for Underworld Awakening – check it out below.

You better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout, I’m telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town. And he’s going to eat you. In the entertaining Finnish horror-thriller Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, the song takes on a whole new meaning.

I used to have one steadfast rule: if I was watching a movie on home video and I hadn’t heard of it, it wasn’t worth seeing. That rule stems from a broader one: if a movie goes straight to DVD, it’s not worth watching. If the studio doesn’t have confidence that a movie can make it big theatrically, especially in typically low-brow genres like horror, then the movie is probably terrible. Video On-demand is changing those views.

I’m an atheist but by God I love me some exorcisms! If God exists, that means the Devil exists, and if the Devil exists, that means crazy sh*t like what happens in exorcism movies could actually occur, which means… well, let’s not even go there. The first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming horror movie The Devil Inside is now available for your viewing pleasure.
Oh, and it’s freaky as hell itself. Not that I’ve been there. Yet.

When is a remake not really a remake? It isn’t quite clear what The Thing is. Like the alien, which isn’t human but can mimic every aspect of the people it consumes, the movie is technically and literally a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic, but it shares the same time title, plotting and setting. It is, in essence, a remake that was smart enough not to be a remake.

The word “enlightening” is used loosely. In fact, there isn’t anything enlightening about this review. It is, after all, a DVD review. The lowest of all reviews. Poor little DVD review, so cute and utterly pointless.
But you’re reading it, so you must disagree with me.

“Are you mad? I am your daughter.”
The creepy 2001 thriller The Others creeps onto Blu-Ray this week, and if you haven’t seen this classic – or haven’t seen it in a long time – it’s worth adding to your collection. The bonus features are pathetic, but the movie offers the perfect blend of intrigue, scares and a few other surprises.
