Watch the New Battleship Trailer

March 14th, 2012
battleship-rihanna

The third movie trailer for the upcoming action flick Battleship is now online. Every time a new preview is released, it looks more and more like Transformers – and doesn’t even try to hide it. "From the studio that brought you Transformers" is their big marketing pitch, which

is rather disconcerting given that they’re basically saying, "We couldn’t make another Transformers this year, so you get this copycat product instead."

John Carter Movie Review: As Barren as Mars

March 9th, 2012
john-carter

Just when you thought you’d seen all the Star Wars prequels you found poorly written, clunky and devoid of captivating characters comes John Carter, a Disney-fied space epic that is poorly written, clunky and devoid of captivating characters. Its one saving grace: it makes you appreciate George Lucas’s [forgotten] skill when it comes to directing explosive action, something that is so sorely lacking in John Carter.

Men in Black 3 Trailer Says It’s Time to End this Franchise

March 6th, 2012
men-in-black-3

I loved the first Men in Black movie. Its sequel, the intelligently titled Men in Black 2, was mediocre at best, but still entertaining at times. Now, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back for another dose of J and K, but I have a feeling I’ll be less interested in the film’s time travel storyline and more interested in checking my watch to see how much longer remains before I can leave the theater and do something more entertaining.

Review: Chronicle Flies Sort of High This Weekend

February 3rd, 2012
chronicle

Three Seattle teenagers develop super powers and do wonderful things with them, like scaring little girls and playing practical jokes on unsuspecting strangers, in the entertaining but far from great sci-fi action film Chronicle. Oh, and one gets corrupted by his newfound powers and takes it out on the Emerald City and all those who stand in his way.

Apollo 18 is a Really Bad Movie

January 26th, 2012
apollo-18-movie

Most people think Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon. Most people are wrong. Like dead wrong. NASA, those scheming, secretive bastards, sent another spaceship to our orbiting little sister with the intent to explore a nearby crater and the unreported landing site of a Soviet craft. Apollo 18 gives a firsthand look at found footage from the mission.

The Top Ten Best Movies of 2011

January 2nd, 2012
top-ten-movies-2011

Frankly, 2011 was not a great year for movies. There were a lot of good movies, but few great movies. Spielberg released two movies, but neither were among his best. Scorsese made a kid’s movie, which, despite popular opinion, is not an Oscar-caliber film. The comic book adaptations were entertaining but not mind blowing. The various sequels lived up to their predecessors, but nothing more.

Still, there were a few that stood out from the rest. Few if any on this list were amazing, but they are the best that 2011 had to offer.

Win Contagion on Blu-ray!

January 2nd, 2012
contagion-matt-damon

Stephen Soderbergh’s Contagion was one of the better movies of the fall, well executed and surgical in its realistic portrayal of how a massive outbreak would spread throughout the world and cause incredible panic. Contagion, which stars Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwenyth Paltrow, Jude Law, Marion Cottilard and Laurence Fishburne, comes to Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, and we’re giving away two free copies of the Blu-ray combo pack, with an Ultra Violet copy.

G.I. Joe 2 Trailer Suggests Better Times Ahead

December 16th, 2011
gi-joe-2-the-rock

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra sucked. There, I said it. And no, I’ve never said it before. Or predicted it long before it was released. Between the terrible special effects, the ludicrous plot, the sandpaper acting and the sheer awfulness of it all, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra was the epitome of suckage, if suckage were a word.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Rises on Blu-ray

December 15th, 2011
rise-of-the-planet-of-the-apes

There are a lot of good movies to choose from right now. In theaters, several are competing for box office dollars and Oscar glory. On DVD, all the big summer hits have been released. Oh, what to choose?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, one of the biggest surprises of the summer, is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. A box office and critical hit, the excellent primate film is shockingly alluring, even realistic, with a nearly speechless performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar the ape.

The Rocketeer Soars Onto Blu-ray, Brings Nostalgia

December 12th, 2011
rocketeer

I was nine years old when The Rocketeer flew into theaters, and I loved it. Flying men, lots of action and Nazis… what more could a little boy ask for? Thankfully, 20 years later, The Rocketeer stands the test of time surprisingly well. The Disney movie is just as enjoyable now as it was then, especially since I appreciate watching a young Jennifer Connelly strut around in a sexy white dress.

Aliens. Explosions. Lots of special effects. It’s Battleship, 2012′s response to Transformers. A new movie trailer for the upcoming Peter Berg film is now online, and it practically pleads with the audience to go see it because it bears some resemblance to the Michael Bay franchise, going as far as to say “From HASBRO, the company that brought you Transformers.”
