Last time Johnny Depp took on a Hunter S. Thompson adaptation, he was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In The Rum Diary, he’s simply lost in Puerto Rico, which isn’t nearly as wild of a ride. At times entertaining, but generally forgettable, The Rum Diary‘s only saving grace is that it also stars the face and body of Amber Heard.

People seem to like Johnny Depp. Why? Because he’s Johnny Depp. Women want to screw him, guys want to be paid $30 million for acting like a gay pirate like him and screwing the women who want to screw him. Unfortunately, the masses have to settle for watching him in movies, and Johnny Depp has a new movie coming to theaters on October 28. It’s called The Rum Diary, based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas).

The 2010 drama Rabbit Hole, out on DVD and Blu-Ray today, went largely overlooked by critics and audiences alike when it was released in late December. The movie received very little award attention – other than Nicole Kidman’s performance, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Despite only costing $5 million to make, the picture earned only $2.2 million in the United States, a stunningly low number given the talent involved.
