Blu-ray Review: The Insider

February 19th, 2013

Michael Mann’s The Insider withstands the test of time, and yet few have experienced this great movie. Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture back in 1999, the Al Pacino/Russell Crowe-starring movie earned only $29 million against a budget of $90 million. But money isn’t everything, right?

Wait, it is? Damn.

Jack and Jill Is Not the Worst Movie Ever

April 12th, 2012

Move over The Artist. The biggest awards show winner was not that critically praised silent movie. It wasn’t Hugo, and it wasn’t The Descendants. No, winner of 11 honorable awards including Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Director, Worst Ensemble, Worst Remake, Worst Screen Couple, Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Supporting Actress and, most importantly, Worst Picture, is Jack and Jill, a movie that stars Adam Sandler as both title characters.

The Son of No One Movie Review

November 3rd, 2011

Another cop drama, another Channing Tatum movie. Another film where Al Pacino wastes his talent. It’s The Son of No One, a movie that no one needs to watch. The very definition of mediocre, The Son of No One is neither offensive nor captivating. It’s a movie that exists simply to exist, to offer nothing of substance while still eating up an hour and a half of viewers’ time.

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro Team Up in Righteous Kill (2009) – Photos

November 7th, 2007

Righteous Kill movie imageAl Pacino and Robert De Niro are joining forces for the first time since they squared off against each other in the highly acclaimed Heat. This time around in Righteous Kill (how cool of a title is that?), the two actors will be on the same side of the law and hunting a serial killer. Behind the helm is Jon Avnet, who hasn’t done much recently except for the defunct but critically acclaimed “Boomtown”. Older films include Fried Green Tomatoes and The War.

Four new images are available in our Righteous Kill image gallery.

Could this be the big break the two actors, especially De Niro, need? Some criticize Pacino for shouting his way through his performances, though he certainly still has fan appeal and chooses films adequately well. De Niro, however, has not done anything remarkable in what seems like a decade. Fans want to see these actors in serious films, and seeing them together in a serious film, a serial killer flick, no less, should appease them somewhat. I’m excited.
