
Last time Johnny Depp took on a Hunter S. Thompson adaptation, he was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In The Rum Diary, he’s simply lost in Puerto Rico, which isn’t nearly as wild of a ride. At times entertaining, but generally forgettable, The Rum Diary‘s only saving grace is that it also stars the face and body of Amber Heard.

Having never gone through the experience of having a stepfather, the likelihood of “my new dad” being a psychotic serial killer is rather low, but the possibility in general is intriguing. Of course, The Stepfather, about an obsessive guy who infiltrates families in search of the perfect family, isn’t a psychological thriller – it isn’t written to be so layered – but there is promise in the idea.
They make out with some cash, that is. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that sexy starlets Odette Yustman and Amber Heard will star in the remake of a 1970 British thriller. The film, And Soon the Darkness, is set in Argentina – where it will be filmed – and follows “two girls from America who take a bike-riding trip in a far off part of the country. Eventually one of them goes missing and the other must find her before it gets dark.”
