Review: ‘Man of Steel’ is the Movie to See

June 11th, 2013
man-of-steel-superman

In my review of Man of Steel, I am going to nitpick, because that’s all I can do. For all of you who have forgotten that the one-off Superman Returns wasn’t that bad, Man of Steel offers no such room for criticism: featuring a strong origin story and a second half packed with visceral action, Man of Steel is the first truly great blockbuster of the year.

The 10 Most Disappointing Movies of 2012

January 7th, 2013
most-disappointing-movies-2012

There are always bad movies, but you can often see them coming. There is something much worse, something much more sacrilegious, in the movie industry: the disappointing movie. Disappointing movies may not be terrible – in fact, they may not even be bad movies – but they failed to meet lofty expectations. To achieve their full potential. To reward the moviegoers who paid good money to see a good movie. To meet the anticipation set forth by marketing, buzz and high hopes. To keep children from crying.

Review: Kristen Stewart Goes ‘On the Road’, Gets Naked

December 21st, 2012

With the Twilight series officially behind her, Kristen Stewart seeks to make the world forget she ever was Bella, one of the most nauseating protagonists ever put to film. In her first post-Breaking Dawn role, Stewart plays a supporting character who is unafraid to get frisky, get naked and participate in threesomes. Unfortunately, the rest of On the Road isn’t nearly as titillating.

Review: ‘The Master’ is No Masterpiece

October 15th, 2012

Five years after There Will Be Blood, Paul Thomas Anderson returns with The Master, a drama loosely based on the founding of Scientology. The movie stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix as master and apprentice, respectively, and while they turn in powerful, Oscar-worthy performances, the final result is a drawn out, even boring film.

The Five Best Nora Ephron Movies

September 24th, 2012

Let’s face it: The state of the modern Hollywood romantic comedy is abysmal.  Sure, there have been a couple of diamonds in the rough here and there; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Punch-Drunk Love come to mind.  The bad news is that I had to reach all the way back to 2004 and 2002 for examples.  For many, including myself, it feels like Hollywood is making the same movie over and over again, laden with clichés and a cast liable to include Katherine Heigl or Kate Hudson.

Between his send-off in Gran Torino and conversations with empty chairs, Clint Eastwood’s time in front of the camera appeared to be a thing of the past. But then the revered actor received another offer to play a crabby old man, and it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, which debuts in theaters summer 2013. “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights…”

I’m a child of the 80′s.  I grew up watching classic Disney, “Fraggle Rock”, and “The Muppets”.  So, needless to say, I was really excited to see The Muppets, their first theatrical release in over a decade.  And with all the positive hype it was getting, my hopes were set pretty high.  I was not disappointed.

Sunshine Cleaning Movie Trailer Review

December 9th, 2008

I just watched the new movie trailer for the upcoming film Sunshine Cleaning, and it looks pretty good. From the producers of Little Miss Sunshine (their next film is called The Dark in the Darkness), the movie is about two house-cleaners (Amy Adams and Emily Blunt) who decide to open their own crime scene cleaning business to rake in the real dough. Puking at the smell of dead people occurs.

As with the aforementioned Oscar-nominated film, Sunshine Cleaning just likes like a nice, laid back comedy that never takes itself too seriously while still delivering a “serious” story and believable characters. Adams and Blunt are both on a roll right now, so I hope this one does well.

Here’s the Sunshine Cleaning movie trailer:
