The nominations for the 84th Annual Academy Awards were announced yesterday. And they were… shall we say… uninspired. Several of the year’s best films were ignored outright, while the movies and performances that played to Oscar sentiments were rewarded with nominations, regardless of originality or creativity. Rise of the Planet of the Apes Rises on Blu-ray

There are a lot of good movies to choose from right now. In theaters, several are competing for box office dollars and Oscar glory. On DVD, all the big summer hits have been released. Oh, what to choose?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, one of the biggest surprises of the summer, is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. A box office and critical hit, the excellent primate film is shockingly alluring, even realistic, with a nearly speechless performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar the ape.

Why Do Scientists Hate Us So Much?

Scientists never learn, do they? They want to help humanity. They want to cure diseases. They want to better mankind. But what do they ever really do? They just create genetically altered, superiorly intelligent animals that will eventually revolt and turn humans into voiceless slaves. Silly scientists. We deserve to be enslaved for their hubris.

First Pictures from The Hobbit

It’s not some elaborate hoax. The Hobbit and its sequel are indeed happening. Entertainment Weekly released the first few photos from the highly anticipated Peter Jackson movies, featuring Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and a modern-looking bearded dwarf.
