Blu-ray Review: Prometheus, Round Two

October 13th, 2012
prometheus-michael-fassbender

“Questions will be answered” is the tagline for the Blu-ray release of Prometheus, featuring never-before-seen extras including an alternate beginning and ending. That’s a lofty promise, considering one of the biggest complaints about Ridley Scott’s anticipated return to the sci-fi genre – and the Alien franchise – was that the movie raised many more questions than it answered.

Snow White Blu-ray Review: Style, No Substance

September 11th, 2012
snow-white-charlize-theron

Some would describe Snow White and the Huntsman as a fun movie. Others would describe it as a glossy mess. Regardless, there’s no argument that director Rupert Sanders is as good at creating stunning visuals as he is at directing his way into Kristen Stewart’s pants. Unfortunately, the bonus features included on the new Blu-ray release – available in stores now – are immediately forgettable.

Prometheus Movie Review

June 8th, 2012

Blade Runner and Alien. Ridley Scott is responsible for both of them, two of the most renowned sci-fi movies of all time. After 30 years, the Gladiator director returns to the genre with Prometheus, a quasi-prequel to Alien that seeks to explain the origins of mankind, and at least hint at how those acid-spewing, face-hugging teddy bears came to be. A beautiful and suspenseful action-thriller, Prometheus isn’t perfect, but it still stands among the best of the genre.

Snow White and the Huntsman: Sexy But Hollow

June 1st, 2012
snow-white-kristen-stewart

Snow White and the Huntsman is like the bitchy girl in high school. She’s attractive, sexy and stylish, but cold and hollow underneath. She may be worth a ride or two around the block, but she’s never going to meet the parents. She’s nice to look at, even entertaining, but leaves you wanting more.

Ridley Scott is returning to the sci-fi genre for the first time in decades with the highly anticipated movie Prometheus. You may recall that Scott is responsible for such classics as Alien and Blade Runner. In fact, Prometheus was originally intended to be a prequel to Alien, though it has evolved into something that appears to be much more epic in scope, set in the same universe but not necessarily featuring those same pesky acid-bleeding, mouth-in-mouth-in-mouth aliens.

The Best Performances of 2011

February 25th, 2012
best-performances-2011

It’s true that the ultimate prize any actor can receive is an Academy Award. And yet, this year’s Oscars prove more than most that even the best performances can go overlooked. Seven of the top ten actors listed here were not nominated for an Academy Award, and only nine of the 20 actors who were nominated (for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role) earned a place on this coveted list.

After all, FilmJabber’s list is coveted. Because we say it is, that’s why. Without further ado, here are the 20 best performances of 2011:

Young Adult is in Theaters. Here’s a Movie Review

December 16th, 2011
young-adult-charlize-theron

Just when you think your husbands are safe, along comes Charlize Theron. Blond, sexy, hot and slutty. Obsessive, mentally deranged, utterly depressed and drunk. The popular girl in high school. A successful author. A crazy bitch that only got crazier a divorce and a few bourbon bottles later. It’s Young Adult, the funny and superbly acted new drama-comedy from Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno, and four-time Oscar nominee Jason Reitman, who directed Juno and Up in the Air.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?

Universal Pictures has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming Kristen Stewart-starring Snow White & the Huntsman, one of two Snow White adaptations coming to theaters in 2012. If the trailer is any indication, the other movie - Mirror Mirror - has its work cut out for it.

The Burning Plain Movie Review

March 21st, 2010

Charlize Theron in the Burning PlainSex and fire unite in The Burning Plain, a 2009 drama by writer/director Guillermo Arriaga. Though it received little promotion during its release period, the Charlize Theron-starring film is a surprisingly engaging little film. The Burning Plain isn’t amazing, but it is worth seeing.

New Hancock Movie Pictures

July 4th, 2008

Hancock Movie Picture Will SmithI finally got around to updating the Hancock image gallery today; I added over 15 new movie pictures for the superhero action movie Hancock, starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron. Check out the Hancock movie pictures.

The movie is about a drunk of a man (Will Smith) who just happens to be the only superpowered being on Earth. While he saves people at times, he is pretty careless about his actions, leaving people to become frustrated with the so-called hero. After he really gets himself in trouble, though, his newfound PR agent (Jason Bateman) convinces him to turn his act around and become the person everyone expects him to be. That synopsis is based on what I’ve seen from the previews – I’m not going to go see Hancock until tomorrow unfortunately.
