The 12 Funniest Movies of 2012

January 19th, 2013
funniest-movies-2012

There are all kinds of comedies, some more critic friendly than others. Stupid comedies… critics hate those. Dramatic comedies… boy, do critics eat those up. But what really matters when it comes to comedies? I have very specific criteria: a good comedy has to make me laugh.

Total Recall Movie Review

August 4th, 2012
total-recall

Proof that action movies from the 1980′s and early 90′s are indeed better than modern action movies, the beloved Arnold Schwarzenegger cheese fest Total Recall gets the reboot treatment with a sleek, sexy but lifeless incarnation from director Len Wiseman.

Watch the New Kick-Ass Total Recall Trailer

June 28th, 2012
total-recall

When the Total Recall remake was announced, I thought it was a terrible idea. The Arnold Schwarzenegger version is still a blast, so why fix what ain’t broke? But then the trailer was released, and the Colin Farrell-starring action film didn’t look half bad. A rip-off of The Fifth Element and Blade Runner perhaps, but not half bad.

best-performances-2011

It’s true that the ultimate prize any actor can receive is an Academy Award. And yet, this year’s Oscars prove more than most that even the best performances can go overlooked. Seven of the top ten actors listed here were not nominated for an Academy Award, and only nine of the 20 actors who were nominated (for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role) earned a place on this coveted list.

After all, FilmJabber’s list is coveted. Because we say it is, that’s why. Without further ado, here are the 20 best performances of 2011:

January 29th, 2012
seven-psychopaths

Marty is writing a movie called Seven Psychopaths, but he doesn’t want it to be violent. His best friend Billy informs him that that’s impossible: the movie is about seven psychopaths. Billy is right. Seven Psychopaths is a fun, funny and absurd movie, but it is not for the faint of heart.

Fright Night Bites from Blu-ray, Scares No One

December 13th, 2011

A bite, a little sucking and a withered corpse. With the unnecessary remake Fright Night, director Craig Gillespie found something to chew, sucked away the perfect blend of campiness and horror that made the original so good and produced a forgettable corpse of a movie.

The Best Colin Farrell Movies of All Time

August 20th, 2011
colin-farrell-best-movies

For some reason, Colin Farrell has developed a love-him-or-hate-him reputation with audiences and critics. I for one find him to be one of the most talented actors working today, and have felt that way since he debuted in Tigerland over a decade ago. Farrell has proven to be a versatile actor who can and is willing to take on just about any juicy role, whether it’s playing a sleazy boss in Horrible Bosses or a love-smitten hit man in In Bruges.

Farrell is receiving strong reviews for his portrayal as an evil vampire in the horror-comedy remake Fright Night, so I figured it was about time to look back on the actor’s career.

Have you ever had a bad boss? Do you have one now? Have you ever just wanted to kill the slimy bastard? In the entertaining dark comedy Horrible Bosses, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis devise a seemingly foolproof plan to eliminate their bosses (played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell) from this world. From Peter Weir, the director of Master and Commander, comes the epic escape and survival film The Way Back. Released in December 2010 on its way to less than $3 million domestic box office gross, The Way Back is yet another head scratcher. With a captivating story and powerful performances, The Way Back deserves much more attention than it received, even with a disastrous ending.

February 18th, 2008

Heath Ledger’s final film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, has been in a state of limbo ever since the actor’s death, but things are back on track with the announcement that three actors will be used to play Heath Ledger’s character.

Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell will replace Ledger as the character is transported into three separate dimensions. Terry Gilliam will continue to direct the film, which is now slated for 2009. There is no word on when production will resume.
