The Woman in Black Movie Review

February 3rd, 2012

Harry Potter returns to the land of the Muggles and finds that things are a lot scarier than He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named in The Woman in Black, Daniel Radcliffe’s first movie since the franchise that made him a household name came to a close. The Woman in Black is creepy from start to finish and should satisfy most horror fans, but it fails to capitalize on its eerie atmosphere with a few too many cliché scares and a terribly disappointing ending.

Frankly, 2011 was not a great year for movies. There were a lot of good movies, but few great movies. Spielberg released two movies, but neither were among his best. Scorsese made a kid’s movie, which, despite popular opinion, is not an Oscar-caliber film. The comic book adaptations were entertaining but not mind blowing. The various sequels lived up to their predecessors, but nothing more.

Still, there were a few that stood out from the rest. Few if any on this list were amazing, but they are the best that 2011 had to offer.

Harry Potter is gone, but Daniel Radcliffe is still around, and if this new trailer is any indication, he may be around for a while.

In The Woman in Black, Radcliffe stars as a Victorian-era man who moves into an extremely haunted house. That’s the plot, but the marketing team at CBS Films has assembled an absolutely stellar teaser trailer to make it stand out from the rest in the genre.

April 28th, 2011

Only a few more months. I keep telling myself that. Only a few more months. Two and a half months to be precise. God, it’s so long.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II debuts in theaters on July 15, 2011, and Warner Brothers just released the new trailer for the finale to the epic franchise. It is… decent. And by decent, I mean kick-ass. Every indication (seven quality movies, an awesome book, etc.) suggests the movie is going to be amazing.
