Review: ‘Pain & Gain’ Has More Pain than Gain

April 26th, 2013
pain-and-gain

Michael Bay returns to his roots, sort of, with Pain & Gain, a low budget crime comedy-thriller starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie and Tony Shalhoub. Please note that "low budget" for Michael Bay means $25 million.

Review: Well, ‘G.I. Joe’ is Better Than the Last One

gi-joe-retaliation

You know you’re in trouble when the best line of dialogue in an entire movie is a Jay Z quote. Then again, I don’t know if I was in trouble. The new G.I. Joe: Retaliation is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor, with fast-paced action sequences and the charisma of The Rock pulsing through every scene, but it’s also absurd, absurdly absurd and fucking ridiculously absurd. After a financially successful albeit shoddy launch, Universal lost one of its stars to a terrible sequel and nearly killed the franchise when it lost the other and moved to Japan. Then the confusingly titled Fast and Furious erupted in a big way, ensuring the franchise, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker several more sequels for the years to come.

Enter Fast Five.

The Rock is Faster. Too Fast for Us.

April 30th, 2011
faster

Revenge is a dish best served cold. In Faster, it’s served through the drive thru window.

In the first couple minutes of Faster, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s unnamed character is released from prison. He steps outside, looks both direction, and then starts running. He finds his car and screeches out of the lot, determined to begin his killing spree. No time wasted, no rest for the weary.
