Review: Penn, Gosling Can’t Save ‘Gangster Squad’

January 12th, 2013
gangster-squad

Gangster Squad proves that an all-star cast and flashy direction aren’t enough for what is essentially an unnecessary and ultimately bland upgrade of The Untouchables. Featuring the likes of Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña and Giovanni Ribisi, Gangster Squad is moderately entertaining on occasion but instantly forgettable.

He doesn’t find one.

I loved the first Men in Black movie. Its sequel, the intelligently titled Men in Black 2, was mediocre at best, but still entertaining at times. Now, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back for another dose of J and K, but I have a feeling I’ll be less interested in the film’s time travel storyline and more interested in checking my watch to see how much longer remains before I can leave the theater and do something more entertaining.

Jonah Hex Movie Review

November 16th, 2010

There was a [brief] time in American history where people would say it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter how bad the movie is. It had Megan Fox in it, and she plays a prostitute and wears a corset. It doesn’t matter how bad the movie is, it’s worth watching. That time in American history lasted for about a year, and no one truly believed it. Still, had Jonah Hex been released a couple years earlier, people would have cared. Instead, they shrugged off Jonah Hex for the piece of crap it is.
