Review: Penn, Gosling Can’t Save ‘Gangster Squad’

Gangster Squad proves that an all-star cast and flashy direction aren’t enough for what is essentially an unnecessary and ultimately bland upgrade of The Untouchables. Featuring the likes of Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña and Giovanni Ribisi, Gangster Squad is moderately entertaining on occasion but instantly forgettable.

Occupy This: Tower Heist Movie Review

What do you get when you let a director known for adequately average films and two comedians who haven’t starred in a good movie in years attempt to convince people to spend their hard-earned cash on a movie about people losing their hard-earned cash? A surprisingly convincing crime-comedy called Tower Heist, which, strangely, isn’t very funny.

Everyone Should Watch Everything Must Go

After a string of bad movies, Will Ferrell desperately needed to mix it up. Aside from voicing the title character in Megamind, Ferrell hasn’t given audiences a truly entertaining movie since 2007′s Blades of Glory, and even that doesn’t rank among his best films. So, after four years of so-so (Step Brothers) to downright terrible (Land of the Lost and Semi-Pro), the A-list comedian did what any A-list comedian would do in his situation: he went serious.
