Review: Matthew McConaughey is ‘Mud’

From the writer/director of Shotgun Stories and Take Shelter comes Mud, which stars Matthew McConaughey as a wanted fugitive who is befriended by two teenage boys who agree to help him elude a group of bounty hunters and reunite him with his on-and-off girlfriend while evading poisonous snakes and angry parents. Mud is Jeff Nichols’ most accessible and entertaining movie to date, but it’s also the least memorable.

Review: Premium Rush is Fast and Stupid

While lawyers, policemen and doctors get television show after television show, bike messengers get nada. Hell, truck drivers in Alaska get a television show. Packrats do, too. How many shows are there about bike messengers? A big fat zero. Not anymore! Bike messengers finally get their day in the spotlight, and not on television – in a big-screen movie starring big-screen actors, depicting just how awesome their low-paid jobs are. Especially when corrupt cops and Chinese smugglers are involved.

Watch the Man of Steel Teaser Trailer!

Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, which debuts in theaters summer 2013. Directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan, Man of Steel looks to re-energize the Superman franchise with a grittier and hopefully more action-packed approach to the man with the red tights. Henry Cavill stars as Clark Kent/Superman.

The Best Performances of 2011

It’s true that the ultimate prize any actor can receive is an Academy Award. And yet, this year’s Oscars prove more than most that even the best performances can go overlooked. Seven of the top ten actors listed here were not nominated for an Academy Award, and only nine of the 20 actors who were nominated (for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role) earned a place on this coveted list.

Take Shelter Review: Great Performance, Slow Movie

Storm’s a coming. The air smells of it. The skies are churning. The rain will come, the wind and toxins wiping away humanity. The world is going to end. In Take Shelter, Michael Shannon stars as a man suffering from apocalyptic visions of the near future. He’s certain that horrific storms will soon kill everyone in sight, including his family. Then again, he’s also certain he’s beginning to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia.
