If you ever wanted to see Seth Rogen in a serious movie… If you ever wanted to see Michelle Williams in yet another emotional drama… If you ever wanted to see full frontal nudity from Sarah Silverman… there’s Take This Waltz, the second full-length feature from Sarah Polley. At times cute, others moving, Take This Waltz is a mesmerizing little movie. I just wish I could remember how it ended.

Even after all this time, we’re [thankfully] not quite ready for a Wizard of Oz remake, but that’s not stopping Sam Raimi for directing the colorful Oz Great and Powerful, about a small-time circus magician named Oscar (James Franco) who is swept by – you guessed it – a tornado into the fantastical Land of Oz.

My Week with Marilyn

Michelle Williams earned another Oscar nomination for her turn as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. She didn’t stand a fighting chance, but that in no way diminishes the understated performance she puts on display amidst the likes of Kenneth Branagh (also nominated) and Judi Dench. The movie was released to DVD and Blu-ray yesterday.

The Best Performances of 2011

It’s true that the ultimate prize any actor can receive is an Academy Award. And yet, this year’s Oscars prove more than most that even the best performances can go overlooked. Seven of the top ten actors listed here were not nominated for an Academy Award, and only nine of the 20 actors who were nominated (for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role) earned a place on this coveted list.

My Week with Marilyn Movie Review

Michelle Williams turns in another terrific performance as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, an alluring little film that is entertaining, but ultimately unremarkable. The movie will appeal to those more interested in lighthearted romantic dramas than serious Oscar fare.
