Better Late Than Never: Midnight in Paris Movie Review

January 13th, 2012
midnight-in-paris

In the very Woody Allen-esque comedy-drama Midnight in Paris, coincidentally written and directed by Woody Allen, Owen Wilson plays an awkward, curious man visiting, coincidentally, Paris, who would have been played by Woody Allen if the actor-director hadn’t finally figured out that audiences don’t want to see him flirting with young women anymore. Hailed as one of Allen’s finest movies in years, Midnight in Paris is a well done little movie. Nothing more, nothing less.

Cars 2 Movie Review

November 2nd, 2011
cars-2

Lightning McQueen and Mater are back, for better or worse, threatening to bore audiences in Cars 2, the critically panned sequel to the worst Pixar movie ever made. After the dull brainsucker that was the original Cars, many Pixar fans – especially of the adult variety – scoffed at the idea that Pixar was overlooking other sequel-worthy properties, such as The Incredibles, to make yet another movie about talking cars reflecting on the simple things in life. Cars 2 also represents the first obvious cash grab for the studio that can [almost] do no wrong.

Proof that a good concept doesn’t always translate into great comedy, Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate, offers a few laughs but fails to embrace its potential.

How Do You Know Movie Review

March 21st, 2011
how-do-you-know

A romantic comedy that unfathomably cost $120 million to make, How Do You Know was released in December, poised to the feel-good “it” movie of the holidays. Instead, it earned only $30 million domestically, making it one of the biggest flops of 2010.

Movie Review: Marley & Me, Now on DVD

March 26th, 2009

Owen Wilson + Jennifer Aniston + cute dog = blockbuster. Marley & Me comes to DVD on March 31, allowing people like me who passed on the film during its theatrical run to take a peek at the surprisingly heartwarming dog film.

Marley & Me is not at all what I expected. Based on the previews, I figured the movie would be a throw-away film with some funny dog antics and not much else; instead, the picture is a surprisingly mature and confident story that entertains and captivates for an hour and a half.

Watch 10 New Drillbit Taylor Clips

March 19th, 2008

I’ve posted ten new clips for Drillbit Taylor, the new Owen Wilson movie. As I’ve calculated out, this probably means you can see about a third of the movie sitting in front of your computer… legally.

Drillbit Taylor opens this Friday, and is the first major film release for Wilson since his suicide attempt last year. Will he get extra fan support as a result? I think he might, though I haven’t seen much promotion for the film, if any.
