October 13th, 2012
prometheus-michael-fassbender

“Questions will be answered” is the tagline for the Blu-ray release of Prometheus, featuring never-before-seen extras including an alternate beginning and ending. That’s a lofty promise, considering one of the biggest complaints about Ridley Scott’s anticipated return to the sci-fi genre – and the Alien franchise – was that the movie raised many more questions than it answered.

Prometheus Movie Review

Blade Runner and Alien. Ridley Scott is responsible for both of them, two of the most renowned sci-fi movies of all time. After 30 years, the Gladiator director returns to the genre with Prometheus, a quasi-prequel to Alien that seeks to explain the origins of mankind, and at least hint at how those acid-spewing, face-hugging teddy bears came to be. A beautiful and suspenseful action-thriller, Prometheus isn’t perfect, but it still stands among the best of the genre.

Ridley Scott is returning to the sci-fi genre for the first time in decades with the highly anticipated movie Prometheus. You may recall that Scott is responsible for such classics as Alien and Blade Runner. June 20th, 2011

I have a general rule. If a movie is coming to On Demand before or shortly after its theatrical release, it isn’t worth watching. If the studio isn’t willing to promote or release what appears to be a mainstream film to a large audience, then I’ll assume it isn’t fit for the big screen. Thankfully, I make exceptions to this rule on occasion – and in the case of The Ledge, the exception pays off.

The Ledge Might Be Worth Jumping For

May 11th, 2011

Would you be considered suicidal if you don’t want to kill yourself but are going to jump off a building nonetheless? In the upcoming thriller The Ledge, a young man named Gavin (Charlie Hunnam) has an affair with a beautiful woman (Liv Tyler) – but love can be killer. When her fundamentalist husband (Patrick Wilson) discovers them, he forces Gavin to make a choice: sacrifice his own life, or that of the woman he loves.

That’s just not a very nice thing to do.

The Scariest Movie of 2011: Insidious

May 4th, 2011

Ghost movies have officially made a comeback. Paranormal Activity was a fluke. Its sequel was a continuation of that fluke. But with Insidious, the third downright scary – and highly profitable – ghost story to hit theaters in the last year and a half, it’s clear horror is trending back to the supernatural.
