‘Oz’ is Financially Powerful, Not Great

June 12th, 2013
oz-great-and-powerful

What does $325 million buy you these days? A groundbreaking prequel to The Wizard of Oz, or an unimaginative orgy of cartoonish special effects starring James Franco playing James Franco? Oz the Great and Powerful is more the latter than the former.

Review: ‘The Bourne Legacy’ Hits Blu-ray

December 11th, 2012

When it was announced that a fourth Jason Bourne movie was being developed without star Matt Damon or director Paul Greengrass, I was worried. When it was announced that returning writer Tony Gilroy was taking over the directing reigns and making a Jason Bourne movie that would include its main character, I was ready to throw in the towel. Having now watched The Bourne Legacy, I wish Universal Pictures would have thrown in the towel long ago.

Rachel Weisz. Beautiful. Good actress. Oscar winner. Married to James Bond. Star of The Deep Blue Sea, one of the most boring movies I’ve seen in a long time.

The Whistleblower SIFF Movie Review

June 1st, 2011
whistleblower-rachel-weisz

Ten days into the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), I finally attended my first showing, a sold-out screening of the upcoming drama-thriller The Whistleblower, starring Rachel Weisz. The movie, about sex trafficking in post-war Bosnia and the subsequent follow-up by the United Nations and United States, is unfortunately a dull, somewhat cluttered affair.

The Brothers Bloom Movie Review

March 10th, 2010

Rachel Weisz in The Brothers BloomIn The Brothers Bloom, Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody star as the title characters, con men who decide they’re going to take advantage of a lonely but rich hermit, played by Rachel Weisz. But what they don’t suspect is that she is more daring and clever than first imagined. Oh, and when one of them starts falling in love with her, that doesn’t help either.
