Review: The Summer Ends with ‘Lawless’

August 29th, 2012
lawless-movie

The late summer doldrums end with a bang as Lawless rolls into theaters, a dramatized true story of moonshining brothers who are pitted against a ruthless police officer. Despite featuring great performances and a violent story, however, Lawless fails to be the sum of its part.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Movie Review

Love him or hate him, Michael Bay knows how to direct action. As much as the infamous director is known for hammy dialogue, basic plots and lots of slow-motion shots, there’s hardly an action fan who doesn’t have at least one Michael Bay movie – let alone several – in his or her collection. With Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bay delivers another must-have action movie to the world, perhaps his best in over a decade.

transformers-3

The new full-length trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon was just released at Apple.com.

And it looks just like the last one.

Last one? Whaaaa? What you mean? I mean it looks like the last one. The last Transformers movie. The last Michael Bay movie. The last movie about things blowing up other things.

Transformers 2 Lends a Hand to Shia’s Hand

August 1st, 2008

Shia LaBeouf mug shotThe Associated Press is reporting that due to Shia LaBeouf’s recent stint with the law – and another car – the blockbuster sequel Transformers 2 may actually write his injury into the script. LaBeouf’s truck was struck a few days ago while taking a left turn, causing him and the others in the car – including fellow Transformers 2 star Isabel Lucas – to be transported to the hospital. LaBeouf’s hand was “crushed,” according to his lawyer.

With at least two fingers out of commission, the possibility has arisen that Transformers 2 – which is currently in filming – may need to be modified. On “Access Hollywood,” director Michael Bay mentioned that the injury might be serious enough to modify the screenplay. Granted, there’s no better movie to work in a hand injury than this movie – or any Michael Bay movie for that matter. Just have Optimus Prime step on his hand in the heat of battle, and we’re good to go.

While the other driver has been cited as “at fault,” there are reports that LaBeouf was drunk at the time of the incident. Whether he was or not, this is the latest in a series of scrapes the actor has gotten into. He might want to think about cleaning up his act before he becomes a paparazzi dream for all the wrong reasons.

In other news, I found out that his name is pronounced “LeBuff” not “LeBoof” today.

New Eagle Eye Movie Trailer

June 24th, 2008

Check out the new Eagle Eye movie trailer, as seen below. This movie looks pretty cool, though could be one of those films that ends up being preposterously bad if there are too many plot holes. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thornton, though doesn’t the voice sound like Julianne Moore?

Yahoo! Reports Indiana Jones Has a Son… Didn’t We Know That a Year Ago?

January 3rd, 2008

I normally don’t attack other websites, but since this other website is one of the largest portals in the world, I had to point this out. I’ve noticed this occurring on Yahoo!’s homepage for the last month or two now, and normally don’t think much of it, but today is just ridiculous.

As you know, Yahoo! features several news stories separated out by “Featured”, “Entertainment”, “Sports” and “Video”, and the “Entertainment” tab is generally movie and music related. What I have noticed is that Yahoo’s scoops are generally a day or two old, which is generally not a big deal except that Yahoo! is one of the biggest companies in the world. I sometimes report on things a week late or longer if it catches my fancy, but Yahoo! has someone paid to be on top of things.

Anyway, this isn’t about a day or two delay. Today, January 3rd, 2008, I went to Yahoo! and noticed a headline: Indiana Jones’ love child? with the subtext: “Rumors about the new Indiana Jones film hint at a possible son.”

Are you kidding me? Hasn’t this been old news for a year now? Haven’t we known that Indiana Jones has a son, and that son is played by Shia LaBeouf? How can they report this as “the latest scoop”? Here’s a screenshot:
