Review: ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, or Into Blasphemy

May 16th, 2013
star-trek-into-darkness

So this little film called Star Trek Into Darkness is now in theaters, and it features among other things a scary performance by baddie Benedict Cumberbatch, lots of entertaining action scenes and the most horrendously bad ending in the entire franchise. Whether you can forgive the movie for its final 20 soul-sucking minutes will determine whether you’ll give Star Trek a positive or negative grade.

Start Trek Into Darkness Poster and Teaser Trailer

December 4th, 2012
star-trek-into-darkness-poster

Paramount Pictures has released the cool new movie poster for Star Trek Into Darkness, the sequel to the hit sci-fi action movie that debuts in 2013. I acknowledge that I am not the first to point this out, but it looks like the villain (Benedict Cumberbatch) has laid waste to Gotham city, not unlike what is seen in several of the Dark Knight Rises movie posters. With an obscure Star Trek logo sketched from a ravaged city, the posters look eerily similar in theme.

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn Movie Review

January 5th, 2012
adventures-of-tintin

Leave it to Steven Spielberg to make the massively disappointing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull only to follow it some years later with a motion-capture adaptation of a beloved European comic book that is more Indiana Jones-esque than anything we’ve seen in two decades. In Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt to stop a nuclear terrorist. The plot may not be new, but director Brad Bird has delivered an exceptionally fun and high-adrenaline action movie that should not be missed.

Paul: An Out-Of-This-World Movie Review

August 9th, 2011

Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies. I thoroughly enjoyed the next Simon Pegg/Nick Frost satire Hot Fuzz. Needless to say, I had high hopes for Paul, their latest collaboration, a sci-fi spoof from the director of Superbad. Unfortunately, Paul is about as funny as a wisecracking alien. Which isn’t very funny at all.

The first trailer for the upcoming action movie Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol is now online, and it looks… pretty damn awesome. The choice of music is a bit questionable, but it’s clear the marketing team is trying to separate itself from the last three films.
