The Tomb: A Throwback to the Eighties Action Movie?

April 1st, 2013
the-tomb-sylvestor-stallone

The 1980s is considered by many as the golden era of action movies, and introduced us to such names as the T-101 Terminator, Rocky Balboa, John Rambo, John Matrix, Cobra, and the Predator. It’s safe to say I was, and still am, a huge fan of these 80s action movies and heroes. They were so over the top and as a result the larger than life stars who played in these action movies have become some of my all-time favorites.

Review: Stallone Puts a ‘Bullet to the Head’

February 1st, 2013
bullet-to-the-head

First Arnold, now Sly. What a violent flashback to the 1980s January is turning out to be. In Bullet to the Head, the Italian Stallion stars as a hit man (shocker) who, after his client turns on him (shocker), sets out to get his revenge (another shocker). The twist: he forges an unlikely – as in really unlikely – partner with a by-the-book cop.

Review: The Expendables 2 Relies on Low Expectations

November 19th, 2012
expendables-2

Old people just don’t know when to quit. Sylvester Stallone and the rest of his washed-up gang are back in The Expendables 2, a dumb, silly sequel to a movie that needed to be dumber and sillier. The first Expendables was a big, fat disappointment for a multitude of reasons. The Expendables 2 proves that low expectations can pay dividends. Sort of.

Arnold, Willis and Stallone in First Expendables 2 Poster!

November 19th, 2011
expendables-2-poster

Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bruce Willis. Sylvestor Stallone. They briefly appeared together on screen in 2010, but Schwarzenegger was still the Governator at the time and Bruce Willis had better things to do. Flash ahead two years and The Expendables 2 is promising more of the three actors, not just cameos. Time will tell, but let’s repeat those names once more. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bruce Willis. Sylvestor Stallone. It’s like a sweet wine teasing the palate.

The movie also stars other “reputable” action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. For action fans, that’s a pretty awesome cast… even better than the first one.

The Expendables Movie Review

August 15th, 2010

Four years ago, Sylvestor Stallone was a washed-up action star. For the last decade, many of his movies went straight to video and the ones that did make it to theaters reminded audiences and critics alike that Stallone was well past his peak. With his age becoming a factor, it was highly unlikely Stallone could ever become relevant again. And yet, in the last few years, Stallone has quietly rebooted his career. Sure, he returned to his roots with Rocky Balboa and Rambo, but those films, both of which were surprisingly good, indicated that Stallone had finally accepted what his remaining fans wanted of him. Box office success followed, and now he’s back with his latest directorial product: The Expendables, a movie that truly harkens back to the glory days of 80′s action films.

Sylvestor Stallone Blu-Ray Smackdown: Rambo Collector’s Set

July 27th, 2010

Sylvestor Stallone’s new movie The Expendables explodes into theaters on August 13 (exaggerated marketing pitch? Watch the trailer and tell me you think a better word is suited to describe its arrival), and that means many of his big movies are getting the Blu-Ray “special edition” makeover – along with a few of his pals’ old movies. With the Rocky movies already having received the full Blu-Ray treatment, it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate packaged all the Rambo movies into a nice, clean, bloody package.

New Rambo Outdoor Movie Poster

November 8th, 2007

Rambo, starring Sylvestor Stallone, hits theaters January 25, 2008, and Lionsgate has just made the new outdoor movie poster available. It’s not nearly as cool as the regular poster, but certainly still has an appeal for it. I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Stallone movie, but I’m really looking forward to this bloodbath…
