The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest trilogies of all time, not only because of its sweeping story arcs and extraordinary production values but because it was filmed as one, long movie that happened to be split into three parts. There is also little argument that the extended versions of the three movies, with over two hours of additional footage, are superior to the theatrical releases. In fact, it’s hard to think of not watching the extended versions.

A Dangerous Method Movie Review

A Dangerous Method tells the seductive tale of Dr. Carl Jung’s (played by Michael Fassbender) obsession with Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightly), a mentally troubled yet beautiful patient he takes under his wing.  Throughout his work with Sabina, Jung forms a relationship and butts heads with the master in his field, Sigmond Freud (Viggo Mortensen), over what each sees as cracks in the other’s ideology.

David Cronenberg directs Viggo Mortensen (who also starred in Cronenberg’s A History of Violence and Eastern Promises), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) and Keira Knightley in this highly anticipated film.

The Road DVD Review

Viggo Mortensen in The RoadEach awards season, some movies rise above expectations – even above their means – to achieve glory, and others fade from awareness almost immediately. Occasionally, there’s nothing wrong with these movies; they’re just released at the wrong time, promoted poorly or struck by fate. One such film is The Road, the Viggo Mortensen drama-thriller that was destined for great things but never got the recognition it deserved.

The Road had everything going for it: the movie was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning book; that book was written by Cormac McCarthy, the author of another Oscar winner, No Country for Old Men; it starred Viggo Mortensen, an Oscar-nominated actor; was about a post-apocalyptic world; had a prime November release date; and it was garnering positive reviews.
