Four New X-Men: First Class Photos!

January 20th, 2011

The 2011 movie marketing is heating up. First we had new photos for Spider-ManThor and Captain America and now X-Men: First Class, the origins story set in the 1960′s and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass). The movie, which is of course about the first X-Men team and takes during a time when Magneto and Professor X were still friends, opens this summer and we’re finally get our first real look at the cast and characters.

Personally, I’m excited for this project, not only because I suspect Marvel is trying very hard to avoid the stink of X-Men: The Last Stand but because putting mutants in the middle of the Civil Rights movement is pretty cool.

Without further ado, check out the new X-Men First Class photos.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Movie Review

May 2nd, 2009

Wolverine Not HappyAfter X-Men: The Last Stand left fans with a sour taste in their math, anticipation has been building for the next film, a prequel that looks at the early life of Logan, also known as the hairy, foul-tempered and clawed Wolverine. Unfortunately, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a disaster, and makes the aforementioned film look like an Oscar-winner in comparison. That’s impressive, but not in a good way.

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we begin with a young Logan in the mid 19th century, who following a violent situation realizes his true nature. Scared and in shock, he goes on the run, led by his older brother, Victor – the man that would become Sabretooth. The two run amok through various U.S. wars, but Victor shows signs of drifting to the dark side; his distaste for humans and willingness to kill on command begins to worry his more moral partner. Nevertheless, the two are recruited by the government through a man named William Stryker, who promises them that they can find their true calling by carrying out missions for him. But Stryker’s motives are less than sincere, and Logan soon goes on the run.

X-Men Volume 1 and Volume 2 Come to DVD

April 26th, 2009

X-Men Volume 1I was born in the 80′s and grew up watching cartoons into the early nineties. One of my staples on Saturday morning was the X-Men animated series.

Despite being a DC Comics fan and not a Marvel one as much, there was something about the show that had me waiting with bated breath for every episode. Compared to some of the other cartoons going on those days – such as the Batman animated series – the artistry was more in tune with the comic book art, the stories grittier and more realistic. In reality, the Batman series – which I also watched – was all-around better, but the X-Men series was the one to watch.
