April 7, 2004I liked the film because it showed white people for the imperialist snobs they are, always have been and always will be. No wonder those critics hated it. They must have been squirming in their seats. Lord knows white folks don't like it when you offend their sensibilities. Furthermore the film was not glorifying the great white way, and we know how they love to be glorified. From reading the critics, it seems they expected to go in there and see some heavy philosophical crap on the cuban revolution and how white america was right all along about Castro. They were obviously disappointed.

March 23, 2004I went in there to have some fun and that's exactly what I got. But then again I didn't go in there expecting to see a heavy duty boring oscar movie. The film just flew by and it was fun. Now if it bored you to death or you needed a prozac by the end of it, those middle age white critics would have been telling you what a masterpiece it is. Not every film has to be melodramtic misery. Of course it has flaws like any films, but I think people take the film way too seriouly. Just see it for what it is and leave it at that. Diego Luna is the best thing in it though.
