Movie Review

In 1991, The Silence of the Lambs shocked audiences. Not only was it an excellent movie, but it also swept the Oscars, winning almost every major award. Currently, in 2001, Hannibal has drawn $123 million domestically. But maybe people don't know about the original Hannibal Lecter film called Manhunter, based on Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon. This is the movie that introduced Lecter to the big screen... It also a movie that should best be forgotten. Full movie review »

I loved this movie it made you think, it made you scared. It prepared Grissom for his CSI role.

Although I generally agree the Manhunt project has it's flaws I think giving it an F is overdoing it.
Maybe the one who did the main review didn't got it at all. The woman with the glowing eyes is not Graham's wife but the woman who was killed.
Of course it has a tough script and it is easy to get lost if you are paying more attention to you rbeer than to the movie.
Petersen, now working on that endless CSI project was good here. The Red Dragon was no more than a screwed up remake of this one.
I have personally saw The Silence of the Lambs with all it's superstars and still like this one.

Basically, the movie "Manhunter" is the raw, original and all the rest (Silence of Lambs, Hannibal, etc) are the made-for-TV, wimped-out versions of the same story. Manhunter portrays its characters as REAL PEOPLE, while for example, Silence of the Lambs must resort to Lecter's comical hockey mask (complete with bars over the mouth) to let us know he is "evil." OK, we get it.....It's not unlike watching the brilliant, raw, original movie "MASH" a couple of times then tuning in every Tuesday evening to watch Alan Alda and his friends attempt to do the same on MASH the TV show. That's fine for the simple-minded American couch potato but not even comparable to the real thing. "Manhunter", a movie NOT for the squeamish...
