Hard Rain Movie Review
Hard Rain, previously titled The Flood, is a wet and wild thriller starring Christian Slater, Morgan Freeman, Randy Quaid, and Minnie Driver. There's nothing unique to the film but it is fun, and that's what counts in an action movie.
Basically, the town has been flooded and a group of robbers are trying to steal $3 million from the back of a stalled armored truck. Unfortunately for them, Tom, one of the drivers of the truck, takes the money and hides it, and then tries to hide so they won't be able to get the money. The plot is about as thick as any action movie, but luckily, the wet settings makes for a slightly original touch. A lot of the action is racing around on jet skis and boats, and they end up going through buildings, schools, and churches. Of course, there were those few claustrophobic scenes where the characters have to escape from being chained down or something as the water rises to drown them.
The acting was decent and not great, but they didn't have much of a script to work with. Morgan Freeman did a good job, keeping in mind that he basically went around saying "All I want is the money." As for Slater, he's the same as in his more popular Broken Arrow. Randy Quaid is the sheriff who's character takes a dramatic shift partway through the movie, and Minnie Driver is the helpless not-so-helpless female along for the ride to provide some wet shirt action (that's what I'm guessing, at least), but luckily they didn't bog down the movie with any love interest scenes.
Hard Rain was a little farfetched but that's okay. It was a fun film with nonstop action, and is deserving of some recognition.
