Lost and Delirious Movie Review

Share:

Love is many things. In Lost and Delirious, it is what takes one girl over the edge.

In an all-girl boarding school, Mary realizes that her two other roommates are in love with each other. Everything is alright until one of them, Victoria, starts seeing a guy, which sends Paulie over the edge. What ensues is a painful and sad trip as Paulie attempts to win back her love, but without much success.

Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) stars as Paulie, the beautiful yet tortured girl who is driven over the edge. She starts out as a rebel and turns into a nutcase, to put things bluntly, all in the name of love. This can easily be considered the best performance of her career, even if there are a few flaws in the character. Perabo is first presented, as already said, as a rebel, the stereotype bad girl that smokes and does daring things. I think this was a really bad start, because it seemed really cheesy at the time, and, more importantly, it made Perabo's fall from innocence not so far. Sometimes Perabo's actions are a little over-the-top, even for a psychotic, but that may be the script's fault.

Lost and Delirious has a pretty good script, but not a great script. The movie tries to be overly symbolic and powerful by putting words into Piper Perabo's mouth, but by being so symbolic it takes away from the realism. I can understand the theme of the movie without hearing Shakespeare quotations and stuff like that.

In terms of entertainment, Lost and Delirious is okay. It is a little slow in parts but never really boring, and at times is extremely good. The movie really picks up in the last half an hour as Piper Perabo advances towards insanity.

Lost and Delirious isn't the greatest movie around, but as it nears its climax, it becomes very powerful. This is one of those movies that will probably become lost over time, but it shouldn't be.
