Murder, She Wrote: The Complete First Season Movie Review
Has it really been twenty years since "Murder She Wrote" began? Wow! The show, which ended in 1996, was one of my favorites growing up - and I was only born in 1982. The first season is now out on DVD, and while it doesn't include any special features, it does include all 22 episodes of that season.
I have little to say about this release other than that fans (or at least the vast majority who can't remember 20-year old episodes) shouldn't miss this release. The episodes don't feel too aged, although the show is definitely more lighthearted than a lot of "murder mystery" shows on today, which does make it a bit goofier than it used to be. At the same time, it's nice to watch a show that presents good mysteries and fun characters while being suitable for relatively young children. I really can't think of a current show that compares to "Murder She Wrote" - there is nothing like it on TV. While adults can reflect back on past memories, this one might also make a good choice for children who are starting to become interested in serious shows but who aren't old enough to watch the gritty murder mysteries like "C.S.I."
It's a shame no supplements are included in the DVD set, but "Murder She Wrote: The Complete First Season" should bring back some fond old memories.
