Police Story Movie Review
Jackie Chan's Police Story is probably one of the actor's best known movies and franchises, and it is now out on a special collector's edition DVD. An alternative opening, alternate ending and deleted scenes are among the features provided here, but it really doesn't matter - if you like Jackie Chan and you don't own this movie, Police Story is a must have.
Police Story has a plot that involves an ideallistic police officer who is assigned to protect a mob witness and eventually bring down a mobster who has alluded both the police and the courts multiple times. Of course, with most Chan movies, the plot takes second stage to the action sequences, which are great in volume and stunts.
It's nice to see a younger Jackie Chan in action, as he does so many stunts that he would never do nowadays. Enough said.
Police Story is a fun movie with plenty of action scenes, and yet is still one of the grittier Chan stories as it features the man with a gun and puts him in "more" realistic situations. The DVD offers several good features, including some fun deleted scenes and a feature commentary by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner, who as far as I know had nothing to do with this film. Apparently, Jackie Chan wasn't willing to do his own commentary so they dragged Ratner in to conduct a couple of featurettes.
