A Simple Plan - Movie Synopsis & Plot
It started out as an innocent trek through the woods and would end up changing their lives forever. One winter day, Hank Mitchell, his older brother Jacob, and his friend Lou venture into the woods to find Jacob's dog when they stumble across a downed airplane. Inside, there is a dead pilot and $4.4 million in cash.
Jacob and Lou cannot part with such a large sum of money and Hank reluctantly complies. Hank volunteers, almost forces, to take the money and says that they will split the money up and skip town after winter is over and the plane has been recovered by somebody else. After that, if no one claims the money, then they will keep it.
But Hank's simple plan doesn't work as planned. Almost immediately, he breaks down and tells his wife, and after some reluctance, she joins in on the deal without Jacob or Lou's knowledge. She persuades Hank to return some of the money to make whoever finds the plane next that no one has been there; no one would leave half a million behind.
But then Jacob accidentally murders a suspicious neighbor and Hank, to protect his brother and their crime, helps cover it up. And as layer upon layer stacks up, they realize that their simple plan is not so simple, and that each of them could conspire against them at any point. Paranoia, conspiracy, and murder ensues as three men try to get away with a simple plan.
