Desperate Measures (1998) - Movie Synopsis & Plot

In a desperate act to save his son, Police Detective Frank Conner goes all out to save a known killer.

After breaking in to the FBI database and finding the only match that is suitable for his son's bone marrow transplant, deadly killer Peter McCabe, Conner persuades the governor into allowing an operation to take place. McCabe is transported to the hospital, under full supervision, but things go terribly wrong. McCabe sneaks some anti-drug pills to resist the anesthesia, and dislocates his thumb to get out of the arm restraints. He ignites the gas using a piece of flint tucked into his thumbnail, and escapes on a murderous spree through the hospital.

Conner desperately pursues him, trying to capture McCabe alive and simultaneously keeping the police from shooting him. His actions lead to his arrest, but he breaks free and continues after McCabe, causing all kinds of chaos in the hospital and on the freeways. To save his son, he must risk the lives of countless others.
