5 years after his murder, Al Simmons returns to the world of the living after making a pact with the devil. For the chance to see his wife Wanda one more time, he has agreed to lead Hell's army in the destruction of mankind. To help him with his task is the obnoxious and crude figure named Clown, an oversized demon of unimaginable power. Then there's Cogliostro who urges the respawned man to go against hell and be human kind's savior. Unfortunately, it's not that easy of a choice. Clown and the devil have recruited the greedy Jason Wynn, a super-rich figure that is intent on taking over the world. The fact is that Jason is Simmons' killer but if Spawn enacts revenge, Wynn's death will trigger the detonation of a world wide virus.
