Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - Movie Synopsis & Plot

Following the explosion of the Death Star, the Empire has vowed revenge on the Rebellion. Their search for the Rebel home base leads them to the ice planet Hoth. There, the rebels are defeated and forced to flee.

While Luke travels to Dagobah, a planet that a vision of Ben Kenobi told him to visit, to learn the ways of the mysterious Force, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and the rest arrive at Cloud City. Han reunites with his old friend Lando Calrissian who runs the station but realizes, all too late, that there is something sinister in Cloud City.

Luke races to Cloud City to save his friends from the Empire only to find that Han has already been frozen in carbonite and shipped off to Jabba the Hut's palace. Instead, he will be pitted against Darth Vader himself and Luke would rather sacrifice himself than accept the dark secret that is about to come out.

The Empire has won. Will the Rebellion be able to prevail?
