Gil Raynard is an all out baseball fan, one of those guys that know every little detail, every little piece of history of the game. His favorite player is the 33 year old Bobby Rayburn, a .314 batter. Rayburn has signed a $40 million paycheck with the NY Giants; Gil is excited that his idol is finally returning home. When Rayburn falls into a slump, and the fans treat him like dirt, Gil still stands up for him. However, when a restraining order is placed on him, requiring him to stay 150 yards away from his son, and he is fired from the knife-sales industry, he realizes that all he has left in the world is baseball. He'll go to any length to make sure Rayburn does good once again... including the murder of Juan Primo, Rayburn's rival. But what happens when Rayburn doesn't say thanks?
