The Postman - Movie Synopsis & Plot
By the year 2013, a war has destroyed the United States. The survivors live in isolated towns, cut off from their fellow citizens. A band of terrorists, known as the Holnists and led by General Bethlehem, rule the countryside, spreading terror throughout the people. A lone drifter discovers the remains of a postman and dons his mailbag and uniform in hopes that it will increase his chance of getting food. Posing as a messenger of the restored United States of America, he is accepted into a small, rural village where his lies spread hope and courage throughout the townspeople. Soon, his legendary words begin to pass from town to town, raising everyone's expectations and building their anger against the Holnists.
A new war has begun. Bethlehem has set out to shake the people's spirits by killing off the growing group of postmen that have gathered over the last few months. Led by The Postman, however, Bethlehem learns that he's not as powerful as he once thought. And by the end, the two will confront one another for the final time, for the sake of the country.
