The Sweet Hereafter (1997) - Movie Synopsis & Plot

One day, it happened. Twenty-two kids were on the bus. It was a snowy day. Snow was coming down and the road was icy. A man was driving behind the bus, waving at his kids as they went off to school. Twenty-two kids were on the bus. The bus went off the side of the road, rolled down the hill, slid in to the middle of the lake, and sank in to the icy waters. Some of the kids died. One girl was paralyzed from the waist down. And the town would never be the same again.

Mitchell Stephens is a lawyer who has gone to town to help the community be compensated. But before he can help anyone, he has to help himself.
