The Trigger Effect (1996) - Movie Synopsis & Plot
The baby having an ear infection, the married couple can't wait until the morning to get the prescription; the doctor is going to ring in a prescription of penicillin in the morning. However, in the middle of the night, the power goes dead throughout the whole city. Immediately, all forms of communications are down. Television, radio, phone, and so forth are all dead. No one can extract money from the bank, credit cards cannot be used, and computers are obsolete. And in one desperate moment, Matt steals the penicillin from the neighborhood pharmacy.
And so it begins. While Matt stole medicine for his child, looting is raging through the city. Trust between people is diminishing and everything that society is based on disappears. The looting, of course, could just be rumors, as said by the one who reported them, old friend Joe who suddenly appears at their door. Nevertheless, just to be safe, they buy a shotgun, and hope that power will be restored soon.
But, after a tragic incident involving a burglar, Matt, Annie, and Joe decide it best to skip town. They head out cross-country, trying to escape the degraded society behind, only to face more trouble ahead.
