and secondly, the alien design reminded me WAY too much of the aliens from "independence day"

reasons:

1- the smaller small alien that you see get its S**T beaten out of had a structure nearly identical to the independence day alien suit's head. the flared out back narrowing to a rounded front with a vertical split running its length.

2- a small alien controlling a large alien. the huge giant had a ball thing inside it that you get to see before the manager blew himself up all over it.

there are other reasons, but this is long enough and you probably already stopped reading this.

but am i the only one who noticed these similarities?

It's a low budget science fiction flick with medium special effects.It reminds me of the Saturday afternoon movies I used to watch when I was younger. I liked it,not great, but not bad.

This movie is very good and it takes us away from those old sci-fi movie that allow the humans to win and prevail and the aliens to lose. Now, I hate those people who think that humans should always win. Why should they always win? The aliens have a far better technological knowledge, so there's a slim chance that humans will win. While other movies took that slim chance and allow the humans to win while this movie does not. However, there is still a sequel and for all those people who thinks that humans will 110% prevail will get the answer at the next sequel or maybe a sequel after that.
