The Apostle (1997) - Movie Review
As far as story goes, The Apostle is rooted well. The movie starts out showing his public side and quickly hurtles into his more human and brutal side, as he finds out his wife is sleeping with another man and eventually ends up putting him in a coma. He then goes on the run and starts a church in a new town. While I do sense a slight bit of mockery towards the eccentric practice of religion that Duvall leads, this still is a religious picture, and the closing scene partakes in the conversion of a nonbeliever. This, of course, means that religious people will like The Apostle much more than I, but, I still have a great deal of respect for the film. It does get boring in parts but there are also some tidbits of humor stuck in here and there (especially the radio guy).
The Apostle is a good movie with great acting, and should not be overlooked, especially if you are religious.
