The Apostle (1997) - Synopsis

Sonny was big time preacher until he knocked his the man his wife was sleeping with into a coma, and went on the run. He ducked out of sight for a while and then reemerged in another town as the Apostle E.F. There, after working at a restaurant and a garage, he started a new church called, "A One Way Road to Heaven." Soon, he developed a large following in his own vision, keeping his true past hidden away. But as he continues to help those around him, he realizes that he has to help himself.
